Introduction...

Lately, your students have been working on improving their introductions to writing.  There are several types of introductions a writer can use to try to "HOOK" the reader.  The types of introductions we are focusing on are:

Dialogue:  The author uses quotations between two characters or  the narrator talks directly to the reader.

Question:  The author begins with asking a question to get the readers attention.

Description:  This type of introduction is usually a long one because it requires the author to be really detailed in what they are describing.

Fact: The author begins with a fact that relates to the topic they are writing about.

Sound:  The author uses Onomatopoeia to catch the readers attention.

Becoming an Author....

Your students have been working hard on their writing!  For "Student Showcase" they wrote a book entirely about themselves.  Some chose to have their picture taken with the "Author" frame pictured below and have it as their cover for their book.  Ask your student to show you their work, they should be very proud of it!  They have become authors in class!

Improving Our Writing...

The Creative Writing class has been improving their writing through "linear writing." Linear writing begins with a controlling sentence that opens the piece with a topic, then the rest of the sentences can be in any order yet still making the piece make sense.  To finalize our "linear writing" section, the students shared about themselves through a collage and a written piece.  Next up.....STARRED WRITING!

Academic Lab is preparing for STAAR

After working on information all week in various subjects, the students are working hard to place the information in the right spot!  Maintaining information is a key part of preparing for the STAAR test, which is only a few weeks away!

We have begun our writing process that starts with Brainstorming.  In this process we get to magnify, which is looking at a topic closely and making our writing clear the way a magnifying glass helps us see things closely and clearer!  The students are catching on to this quickly!
